Before you pay
Customer data protection
Some Buyer Decision Reports may include protection against specific errors in supplied vehicle-history data. It is separate from the report itself and applies only when checkout identifies the covered data, monetary limits and current terms before payment.
What the headline limit means
An “up to” figure is the highest potential limit for the named protection—not a guaranteed payment and not cover for every result in the report. Eligibility, actual loss, claim-specific calculations, exclusions and time limits can reduce or prevent a payment.
A finance-data guarantee applies to the finance-data circumstances described in its terms. It must not be read as protection for valuation, mileage, condition, mechanical faults, MOT history, salvage information or every other part of the report.
Different protections stay separate
If checkout offers separate protection for stolen or insurance write-off data, each covered event, calculation method and maximum will be shown separately. Car Assistant does not combine smaller event-specific limits into a larger blanket guarantee.
What you will see before checkout
- The exact report and customer price, including VAT.
- The data covered and the maximum applying to each covered event.
- The protection period, important eligibility conditions and exclusions.
- Links to the complete terms that form part of the purchase.
- A checkbox confirming that you have read and accepted the displayed policy version.
Checkout remains unavailable unless the vehicle identity, price, applicable protection and terms can be confirmed. The report searches the listed sources after payment; an unavailable field remains clearly labelled and does not gain protection merely because another part of the report was returned. We record the accepted version and acceptance time with the order.
Steps that can affect eligibility
Read the displayed terms before relying on protection. Requirements may include buying the report before buying the vehicle, checking that the registration and VIN match, reviewing the V5C, identifying the seller, keeping the advert and obtaining a dated purchase receipt. The exact requirements shown at checkout take precedence over this summary.
Finance-data protection
Where an eligible report includes a finance-data guarantee, the affected results carry the attribution required for the selected dataset. The current terms explain its finance-data coverage, eligibility and exclusions.
Stolen and write-off data protection
Where checkout includes separate protection for eligible stolen or insurance write-off data, the current terms explain the covered events, event-specific limits, calculations, eligibility period and exclusions. These terms are separate from the finance-data guarantee and are shown only when that protection is included.
Making a claim or reporting a problem
Contact support@car-assistant.co.uk with your order or report reference and identify the result concerned. We will preserve the original time-stamped report and explain the applicable claim or correction route. An ordinary delivery or data-quality complaint is handled under our refunds and report corrections policy; it is not automatically a protection claim.
